The problem is this: Old computer with NS7.2, which has a xxxxx.s file for passwords. New computer has Firefox with its signon2.txt file (I think that key3.db is also needed). Assuming that the .s file is backed up, can it be converted to the Firefox format?

    Westside,

You are correct, the key3.db must also be moved with your password file. Since the new password file in Firefox was presented in Ver. 2.0.0.2 (signons2.txt) a lot of users are having problems with the file.

This is the way you should be able to move your passwords from Netscape or Mozilla, to Firefox:

Copy Netscape/Mozilla Password file to Firefox

In order to copy either the Netscape, or Mozilla password file to Firefox from either of those Profile folders, and have a working password file in Firefox:

You must copy the xxxxxxxx.s file, and the key3.db file to the Firefox profile folder. Once the files are copied, then rename the xxxxxxxx.s file to "signons.txt ". The passwords should then be available and recognized by the specified sites.

Now, it comes back to me. I did that about one year ago, and the password file was signons.txt. I have no recollection how I got the file in Firefox 2.x. It surely is not behaving as well as other password files. for instance, the username/password of this site, and a few more, are not saved in Firefox2.0.0.2.
I am using Seamonkey1.0.8, and the passwords are saved.

The problems with the signons2.txt file are supposed to be addressed in Version 2.0.0.3. They broke something with the new password file, but I'm not exactly sure what it was. That revision should be coming forth soon.

I saw that they have release candidates at mozilla.com, but could not figure out how to deal with the file. What is this? firefox-2.0.0.2-2.0.03.en-GB.win32.partial.mar
    May be: this

Yes, the "this" link contains the instructions for installing the mar file, altho I have never done so. I don't want to mess up my perfectly running Firefox to test it. Can you hear this chicken clucking! ;)
