I've used Netscape for years but have become increasingly unhappy with how slowly jpegs download. (I used to receive e-mails with attached jpegs only rarely but now I do all the time).

I purchased Outlook but don't see a way to migrate all my existing mailboxes and messages. I did find instructions for how to move messages from Netscape Communicator to Outlook Express to Outlook (sounds like a pain, and I upgraded from Communicator a long time ago anyway).

How do you recommend I move my mail - or, if that's not possible, is there a way to get around the slow download problem?

    thank you,
    Kathy

    Kathy,
Ramona has a good writeup on the subject. There is no way to do it directly, as you will see.
You seem to have an unusual issue. I, always, had my mail set to "View Attachments inline ", and jpg files opened with the the e-mail. I have a cable connection, and may be that's the problem, if you have dialup, but you will not be no better off with Outlook.

Thank you, Westside - I have my mail set to "View attachments inline" also, and they open right up. The slowness is in saving them to my hard disk (I should have said that, sorry!) When I had dialup I blamed the slowness on that, but saving pics is still just as slow now that I have DSL (although everything else is MUCH faster :)

    I will read Ramona's writeup.

I'm rethinking this - what if I move my Netscape 7.2 mail to Thunderbird? If I can save jpgs to disk quickly using Thunderbird, that would solve my problem (I already use I.E. as my browser about half the time, and I could just switch entirely to that, or try FireFox).

If I then wanted to switch to Outlook later, would Ramona's method work? (for Thunderbird -> Outlook Express -> Outlook)

    Kathy,
you should be able to move your settings to TB on its installation. You are given a choice to import your settings from a variety of mail programs.
I know nothing about importing from TB to Outlook, but, most likely the answer is yes.
As for speed of opening files, it is anyone's guess. I never had a problem like that with NS, but it is worth trying.
