This has been bugging me for quite a while .. even back on Firefox 1.5, and I now have Forefox 2[.0.0.1] installed. Middle-clicking with the mouse on a tab will close that tab. Middleclicking on a link will open it in a new window.

However I cannot find where to turn that feature on for another computer which has an MS wireless optical mouse. At present middle-click moves me to the previous active window in XP.

What do I have to do to enable the middle-click feature in Firefox?

PS I know middle-click is working because using ctrl-middel-click increases or decreases the font size on a page.

    Hi Ludwig,

Open a new tab and type about:config in FF's URL window; then type middle in the Filter window. The settings for the middle button are found at middlemouse. Double-clicking on a boolean setting changes it from true to false and vice versa. The change should take place as soon as you close the about:config tab.

Also, check your mouse properties in Control Panel to make sure that the middle button is configured properly.

    Addendum:

You didn't say whether you're using any extensions. The Tab Mix Plus extension, for example, has a whole section in its Options devoted to mouse-clicking. Any of those settings should override any settings in mouse properties while you're in FF.

I think that checking the Properties of the mouse is of the utmost importance. My mouse behaves as I expect, but if I click on a word in a post, I get the autoscroll, exactly, as chosen.
