    WinXP SP2, Home edition.
    Firefox version = 2.0.0.1
    Addons = Fasterfox 2.0.0
    McAffe Site Advisor26.1
    Theme = Firefox default

Files that i download show in the download window while downloading then they
disappear (the download window is still open but empty). The files are still
on my PC in the download folder as they should be.

The files used to remain in the download window with options to cancel, open,
remove, or clear (only the cancel option shows now.)

I liked having those options available after a download was complete.
Is this a change or am i just missing a setting somewhere within "Tools "?

    Thanks,
    savagcl

What are your settings in Tools|Options|Main|Downloads? I have two boxes checked. I also have selected to delete Download History in my Private Settings.
I think that the Download History should remain until I close FF. I never pay any attention to it, as it is a nuisance. I have to delete, manually, the downloads in Seamonkey (please, someone correct me if I am wrong), or else (meaning that at a certain point downloads won't work, thus the nuisance).

    Thanks for replying -

    In Tools\Options\Main\Downloads i have 1 checkmark:
(a.) Show the downloads window when downloading a file
    and
(b.) A radio button selected: Save files to

Nothing else is checked or selected.

It will be hard to compare what I have with your situation. I have the second box checked, i.w. to close the download manager when the download is done, but as I said, don't care to save the list. It does exactly what I want, but I am not sure how to preserve the list.

Its no biggie, Westside, just i sometimes want to cancel a download or at least
insure that the download was completed successfully then do a cleanup.

    thanks,

But, if you see the download manager, you can cancel the download. I realized very soon, with Netscape, that all you are seeing is a record of the download. Whatever is downloaded is downloaded. The manager does not do anything else.
And, I can see that the download was successful since the file is where I expect it to be. I guess that it is a matter of philosophy. I don't feel that the download manager is doing anything much. But, if I come up with an answer, I will let you know.

    Clif,

    This is what I found:
When downloading a large file, I could see THIS WINDOW.

When downloading a small file, I could see THIS WINDOW.

The small file downloaded so quickly the cancel option was never available. Could this be what's happening for you?

    Hi Ramona,

Not really, I can see the file while it is downloading (large or small makes no
difference). Upon completing the download, the (downloaded) file completely
    disappears from the download window.

In other words, i never get a chance to do a "Cleanup" because the file
disappears before the cleanup gets a chance to turn on.

The file is on my HD so nothing is lost.

    Clif,

Close Firefox, then open your salted folder, and rename localstore.rdf to Xlocalstore.rdf.

Open Fx again, and see if you have the same problem...

    Tried that, no change.

I re-installed FF and its OK now. Must have been a flaky setting somewhere.

    Working now tho,
    thanks for the help,
    savagcl
