I am using mozilla suite 1.7.5 and decided to create an old inbox and an old sent box under the inbox and sent box in the mail program. I then highlighted many thousands of messages at one time in the inbox and dragged them to the oldinbox. They went to the oldinbox without a problem. Did the same with the sent mail to the oldsentmail.
When I look at my profile under .slt, the MB of the inbox and the sent box are the same as they were before I transferred the messages to the oldinbox and oldsentbox. However, in the mail program only the few messages that I decided not to transfer appear, like 6 or 7 mesages in each box. Why didn't the number of MB go down to almost zero in the inbox and sentbox. I guess the messages are still there but hidden? How do I get rid of them? At this point I have simply doubled the amount of space allocated to the mail. Frustrated!
If the messages I thought were transferred are now hidden in the inbox and sent mail, how do I expose them?

    ackerberg,

You need to compact your folders. That should rid the Inbox, and Sent folder of the excess messages, and MB's. Any time you move or delete messages you should compact folders, as it clears space on the HDD.

Those moved messages won't show up in the folders, even tho they remain on the HDD, until the folder is compacted.

Ramona, you are a genius! it worked just like you said.
I was afraid I was going to have to delete the inbox and sent mail folders to get rid of all that mail. Now I will try the seamonkey upgrade.

    Ramona,
Would you know the executable (*.exe) for the Mozilla mail program?
    The browser is mozilla.exe.
    Thanks

    ackerberg,

Mail & Newsgroups are integrated in the Mozilla program, so there is no .exe file. If you want to be able to open Mail without opening the browser, do this:

    Close Mozilla
Click on: Start | Programs | Mozilla
Drag the Mail icon to the Desktop, and select: Create Shortcut Here

If you prefer not having the splash screen then:

Right click the newly created shortcut
    Select: Properties
To the "Target" field, add one space at the end, then add -quiet

Your Target field should then be similar to or like this:
    "C:\Program Files\mozilla.org\Mozilla\mozilla.exe" -mail -quiet

I installed my Mozilla from a zip file, so it does not exist on the start-programs-mozilla.

    ackerberg,

In that event, right click your Mozilla Desktop shortcut, and select: "Create Shortcut ". Once the shortcut is placed on the Desktop, right click, and to the existing path add one space, and then: -mail. The path should look similar to, or like this:

    "C:\Program Files\mozilla.org\Mozilla\mozilla.exe" -p profilename -mail -quiet

    Hi Bob,

If you intend to use the Mozilla suite's browser and mail client separately, you really should consider switching to Firefox and Thunderbird.

Thanks Jim. I thought about using both but I prefer using an integrated program for mail and browser for now. I was brought up on Netscape and always was partial to that kind of program. I use FF on our laptops but only receive mail on our desktops, so mail is all in one place. On the laptops I use webmail and ultimately download it to my desktop.
