I'm looking forward to making Firefox my default browser, but have several things I'd like to resolve beforehand. My most immediate 'problem' is w/cookie control (I'm getting really annoyed by all the prompts). I have IE set to block all 3rd-party cookies, prompt for 1st-party cookies, & always allow session cookies - a configuration which gives me exactly what I want in cookie control. Is there any way to set this up in Firefox? (I am aware of the "SafeHistory" add-on, but cannot locate enough info to ascertain how well it suits my purpose - sure wish the 'preview' screenshots @ Mozilla were big enough to actually see!)
Thanks.

Firefox doesn't have those exact settings, however what you can do is this:

Add session cookie sites to your white list: Tools | Options | Privacy | Cookies Click on the "Exceptions" Tab and add the URL
Click on: Allow

Those cookies you want to be prompted for can be set here:
Tools | Options | Privacy | Cookies
Click on the Keep until: drop down menu
Select: Ask me every time

Third party cookies could be eliminated when you are "Asked" and the URL added to the "Exceptions" as Blocked

Hi Ramona:

Thanks for responding so quickly, and a special thanks for directing me to the "Firefox Tweak Guide" (http://www.tweakguides.com/Firefox_1.html) - it's a great 'beginner's' guide & the unified toolbar is a thing of beauty.

I've been through everything short of the advanced tweaks (read them 'tho - sure different than playing in the registry!) & installed a few extensions but, altho I'm adapting to most of the differences between Firefox & my übertweaked & enhanced ie6, I'm finding several things which make my life easier in IE to be very difficult to approximate in Firefox.

Altho the settings you suggested would work well w/regularly visited sites, I mainly surf for info over many diverse fields, & regular sites are a very small # of those visited in a typical day. Since those 3rd party cookies are driving me nuts, I'll probably just install that "SafeHistory" extension soon & hope for the best.

Unfortunately, 'SafeHistory' has done nothing to abate the cookie-prompt onslaught. Hard to understand how Firefox, which is so configurable & so good in so many ways, could be so devoid of cookie control options (SafeHistory was the only extension out of the 67 search results for 'cookie' @ Firefox Add-ons which appeared to have any chance of dealing w/this). So far, it looks like the choices are either constantly dealing with cookie prompt interruptions & feeding a large & perpetually growing block list, or rejecting all cookies including session cookies unless the site is in the exceptions list. Guess it all depends on how you use your browser but, in my case, neither option is particularly acceptable - very disappointing. :(

OK, as a work-around I'm gonna try seeding the exceptions list w/allowed sites & then run accept all cookies until I close Firefox to see how that goes. Seems like a second-rate solution (still hoping for better control options - I've never seen or had to deal w/3rd-party or session cookie prompts before & it's very annoying) but I'd hate to give up on this so soon. If anyone has any other ideas/suggestions, please let me know.
Thanks.
