Put a "bookmark" on the desktop

Occasionally, I place a copy of a Windows IE "favorite" shortcut on my desktop, so I can quickly go to a site without having to scan through my long list of "favorites".

Netscape's "bookmarks" don 't seem to work the same way as IE "favorites". Is there a way I can make a shortcut on my desktop, so I can just click on it, and go to a site that I "bookmarked" in Netscape?

Thanks

There are many way that you can organize your bookmarks, for instance by creating a folder with similar types of bookmarks, and having the bookmarks in the Personal Toolbar, kickijng out all the, usually, unwanted stuff from Netscape. I have also, individual bookmarks. With judicious renaming I have 14 folders, plud 4 individual bookmarks, which should cover just about all the bookmarks I have. The largest folder has no more than 40 bookmarks. Of course, it takes time to organize everything, so, should you want to have a bookmark on the desktop, move the page over a bit, by grabbing the blue bar so that you can see a piece of clear desktop ( you will have to hit the button between the - and the x, if you maximize the page), then grab hold of the icon to the left of the URL, drag and drop it on the desktop. Now, I have a shortcut named WindowsBBs...

Thanks for the info. I did what you said. It worked, but...rats...

...it made an IE icon on the destop, and if I click that icon, it launches IE. So, does that mean I must have Netscape as the default browser? If so, I guess that means I can't have both IE "favorite" shortcuts, and Netcape "bookmarks" on the desktop???

Sorry, one default at a time. However Netscape has the IE favorite folder. IE has the NS bookmarks. I gets really funny, because you can see a complete duplication of NS bookmarks in the IE Favorites folder which was imported in Netscape.

How about using explorer.exe > tools > folder options > file types tab and scroll down to html and pick the program you wish to open that (netscape).

It is the same as making Netscape default.
But, I have an interesting experience to tell you about. I thought that selecting right click|open with Netscape, a shortcut from Firefox would do the job. I was going to try Netscape first, and then IE. When I selected Netscape, NS8.1 opened the sgortcut, as desired. When I selected File|Exit, it shutdown the computer, or more exactly restarted it. Yipes, I thought, as Firefox1.0.7 was also open, along with Winamp. FF and Winamp seem ok, although Stuffit for Windos told me that I had improperly closed Windows, but there was nothing in the Suffit folders.
So, i don't recommend that one does this. Take what you got, or make appropriate changes.
