Hi, I have Thunderbird ver 1.5. I now get a error message "could'nt connect to server 127.0.0.1 the connection was refused" Everything was working properly until yesterday. I did'nt add or delete any programs. Anyone have an idea?

You are not telling us if you are using some security software. Did you make some changes since yesterday? The error is typical of programs which change the mail server settings.

    I had the same problem.

Finally fixed it by going to Account options and all the way to the bottom of the left pane is "outgoing server (SMTP) ".

It had the wrong port listed. I edited in the right pane to Port 25 and all was well.

This happened at the time I went to TB 1.5. Also use AVG E-Mail Scanner and may have happened during an update.

Bimmer Guy said that the connection was refused. changing the SMTP settings would do something for Sent mail, but not to receive mail. Now, is the problem with incoming or outgoing mail? And, is any setting changed in Mail Account|Server settings?

So, you checked Tools|Accounts|Server settings for that account, and there is no change? What type of account is it? Can you give the part from @ and on?

In the Account Settings under server settings, your server name should not be 127.0.0.1.
That is the number of your computer.

For instance mine is mail.consolidated.net (my email server). The port is 110, then enter your username (without the @xxxx.net). It will try to connect and then ask for your password for the account.

    Bimmer Guy,

Sounds like your IS person is using an older Norton AntiVirus. Norton modifies your mail client to think its POP server is 127.0.0.1, and streams incoming Mail through 127.0.0.1, before actually reaching your Inbox. If it were your own PC, I would suggest turning off Mail Screening, but as it's your work PC, I don't imagine you have a choice...
