Transferring Email Files to external hard drive

I am moving and need to transfer my email files to an External hard drive with the goal being to then transfer all the files from the External Hard drive to the new computer. However, after going to server setting on Mozilla, and finding out where the files are located, when I tried to look at them they were very hard to read, with lots of computer goobly gook (ie it did not look like a regular email) and there were 2 of each file. How do I transfer my files and reload to the new computer , and be able to see everything? How can I make sure I have it all? Thanks

You want to save only the files with no extention. The .msf file are the header files, and they will be rebuilt later from the original. and you should rename the saved file. You can call it any name you want. Don't worry abbout what you can't read. If you open with Wordpad, it will see only the text part, but it can't show MIME, and all other fun stuff.
Of course, you may want to have more than mail, so, why bother with individual files what you can do in one shot?

My System

Welcome to the Forum, Etz-Ron!

Etz-Ron,

If you will be moving the same Profile to the same OS, then the above link isn't for you. This guideline provides steps for moving a Profile from one OS to another OS, i.e., Windows 98 to Windows XP.

Instead, follow this step by step guideline:
Move the Same Profile To and From the Same Operating System.

Save the entire Profiles folder located here, depending on your OS:

Windows XP
C:\Documents and Settings\user_name\Application Data\Mozilla\Profiles

Windows98
C:\WINDOWS\Application Data\Mozilla\Profiles

If you need additional help after the move, let us know...
