From Thread: Netscape webmail and Netscape's email
Dear Ramona,

I'm really glad I stumbled across this forum. I tried setting up a new account how you described but I'm still have problems connecting (receiving or sending).

To specify, if I try to create a new account from existing netscape webmail I get the registration server busy message. If I set up via the new email account option, I get the failed to connect to imap.mail.netcenter.com message. I can't send messages via smtp.netcenter.com port 25 either.

Do you have any suggestions? Any word about Netscape fixing this issue? I don't have the stomach for version 8, so I really want to stick to 7.2 if possible. Thanks so much for any advice,

Alistair

My System

Welcome to the Forum, awbootrear!

Alistair,

Do I understand correctly that this is a new Mail & NG Account which you wish to set up for an existing AOL/Netscape Webmail account?

In Mail & Newsgroups Account Settings, select: New Account
Enter user name: Mary (for the sake of example)
Email Address: muchomojo@netscape.net
Select: IMAP as type of incoming service you're using
Incoming Server: imap.mail.netcenter.com
Incoming user name: muchomojo
Outgoing user name: muchomojo
Outgoing Server (SMTP): Your default SMTP server, e.g., Earthlink, AT&T, etc.
(Don't use the Netscape Webmail SMTP)

Exit Netscape, then restart. You should now be able to access your Webmail account from Netscape Mail & Newsgroups.

Keep in mind that Netscape no longer owns the Netscape Webmail portal. It is owned by AOL/Time Warner, as is the Netscape browser.

Alistair,
I had posted at thread which you quoted. For several days, I could not set up one of my accounts, which had worked perfectly well. I was about to try to do it the Ramona's way, but I checked one more time, and, as you would guess, I have two accounts working in the Mail client.
AOL has been working, so they claim, on the Webmail issue, and it has not been only with the account being set up in the mail client, which is an extra perk, but also at the website. Webmail come from the website, and that the standard way.
As the website mail has been stabilized, the mail client approach has gone to pot, at least partially. There has been a lot of complaining, about the issues , and I have, personally, alerted the fellow in charge about the major complaints. Just forget the sending part. I cannot enter the SMTP, and have it stay.
I would just get a different address (not @netscape.net), if your ISP is not good enough.
