Can you explain where all these SBD folders and MSF files are coming from?

From time to time, I find hundreds of files and folders in My Documents, with the SBD and MSF extensions. It appears for each file that was legitimately there before, it's added an MSF file, and an SBD folder! (I.e., if there I had a 'wombat.txt', there now appears a 'wombat.txt.msf' file and a 'wombat.txt.sbd' folder.)

I have recently changed from Netscape mail client to the Thunderbird client, and back, but the appearance of these files is not coincident with any one use of one or the other, so far as I can tell.

    Many thanks.

    Welcome to the Forum, JoMo!

    JoMo,

Each Mail file has a companion MSF file. The MSF files are index files which contain your header information.

The SBD folders are the subfolders of the main accounts. If these folders are empty, then it is safe to delete them.

In view of the fact that you are coming from Thunderbird to Netscape, Thunderbird creates an SBD folder for each Mail folder in an account. However, Netscape does not, so if you are now using Netscape, check each SBD folder to ensure that it contains no files, and if not, the folder can be deleted...

The files with no extensions, i.e., Inbox, Drafts, Templates, Sent, etc. contain the Mail.

    JoMo,
Ramona is correct, but I am puzzled by location, beside the double extention. Is the location: C:\Documents and Settings\yourname\My Documents if you have WinXP? I get there only e-mail files which I saved. What is the real path?
I, also, have hundreds of .sbd folders, as well as .msf files, and they are found in the Profiles|Mail accounts
