    WinXP Home, SP2
    ISP = Comcast, High-speed connection.

When loading a (any) web page, it will only load about 98/99% of the page
then stop. Problem is in both Mozilla and FF (latest versions of both).

Watching the loading bar on the bottom, right side of the window, it (rarely)
finishes loading. Mostly not a big problem (i can always hit "Stop ") but some
pages dont activate their links until a page is fully loaded and i cannot use them
until loading is completed. This is the real result of the problem.

I dont think the browser is the faulty part here but i have no other indicators
to look at. Talking to Comcast is always like swimming upstream, lots of
effort and little, or no, progress.

Once a page is fully loaded, the loading bar is supposed to revert back to its
    normal color right?
Anything i could (should) look at besides re-cycling the modem?

    thanks,

Does the same occur using IE browser?

Problem is in both Mozilla and FF (latest versions of both).
Are they sharing the same profile? In all honesty, I'm not sure if it is possible to share a FF profile with Mozilla suite, or vice-versa.

When installing new / latest versions (FF / Mozilla Suite), always practice good housekeeping practices per uninstall old, reboot, then install new?

Done the basics ... clean / delete Internet Temp files, Cache files, Download manager files?

    Dennis L,

Yes it does it in IE - altho not as ofter it seems. Dont have a lot of faith in IE
    tho.

Yes, they both use the same profile but from different folders i.e., each folder
has its own version of the profile.

Installing - yes, good practice to follow. Whenever possible thats how i do it.

I keep my sys cleaned up faithfully. At least twice weekly - spybot, adaware,
ccleaner, clearmru, dclean, mrublaster, regclean, regsupreme, perfect disk,
spyder, dump prefetch. These, in sequence, does a good job of house-keeping.

    thanks for the feedback,
    savagcl

In FF Tools>Options>Web Features. Load images and from originating site only checked? Clear Cache as Dennis says?

This would suggest a more global issue. A few thoughts ...

    Java
Both FF, Moz, IE use same same program. I agree, a stretch.

    Firewall
Check in Web surfing control views. Looking for a active filter / block to images, redirects, popups, javascript. QUICK check for firewall related - has some risks.. If you have a NAT/router, disable/close firewall, go to a problem site that is known to be safe ...
    problem continue?

I found this information in a netscape.public.mozilla.browser thread, which has now expired. This is from Brian Livingston's newsletter.

This may help with the page loading problem, and certainly will do no harm. Even though this mentions Firefox 1.0, it appears the problem still exists in 1.0.1. It is suggested that this issue will be addressed in Firefox Version 1.1.

Firefox is supposed to dynamically release memory from its RAM cache to other Windows applications as needed. Unfortunately, Firefox 1.0 seems to consume more memory than it should, which hurts performance, when set to the default of 51200 KB (51 MB).

To solve this, Firefox power users recommend limiting the memory cache using the Configuration Console. This frees up memory for other apps, speeding up everything to a greater or a lesser extent, depending on your machine and the applications you run. Here's how the trick works:

    1. Type about:config into Firefox's Address Bar and press Enter.

    2. Right-click any row, then click New | Integer
Type or paste the following preference name into the dialog box that appears (this is a hidden preference that doesn't exist in the Configuration Console
    until you create it):

    browser.cache.memory.capacity

    3. Click OK, then enter the following integer number into the next dialog box
This integer number represents 16 MB of RAM for the cache: 16000

    4. Click OK to close the dialog box, then close all instances of Firefox and restart it.

See this page for a lengthy discussion.

Thanks, Ramona, i put that mem limit in and will check a few sites - give it
    a while.
I had my cache set to 50meg for mozilla and 50meg for FF. Changed them both
to 24meg. Will let it run and then try 16meg.

Will post back if not the problem of incomplete page loading.

Didn't take that long to test -
Sorry to disapoint you Ramona but there's no change, except it seems a little
    faster.

Confusing, some pages fully load in record time (SimHQ, weather, comcast),
others never finish (winamp, bestbuy, CDW).
I can see the traffic in the ZoneAlarm box and the loading bar as the page is
loading then when 98/99% is loaded (on the loading bar), there is a pause, with
the ZA box (still open) then it reverts back to the "ZA" text and the traffic
stops and the loading bar is still at 98/99%.

    Thanks for the help,
    savagcl

    clif,

Do you clear you Cache frequently? I can't help but wonder if perhaps this is part of your problem.

Sorry that workaround was a bust!

I have the latest Pref-Bar on both browsers and its a simple mouse-click to clear
    just about anything.

I strongly suspect its the cable modem or something at comcast. Just hate to
talk to them. If it keeps on, guess i'll have to tho.

    thanks, Ramona, for the help,

Have you tried disabling the firewire and see if the problem continues. As stated earlier, this would be accepted risk as long as a you choose a safe site and are behind a NAT router.

    What firewire????

I'm not behind a router, just a cable modem into my network card
    (Intel(R) PRO/1000 CT Network Connection).

    What firewire????

Right spelling, wrong word --- Firewall

    Another alternative
Disable/close ZA, Enable XP's built-in firewall. Test some sites.
I've never used ZA, I have nothing against ZA, but at times it seems be a little over-ambitious in it's duties.

    Dennis L,

Youre right about zonealarm. I just did a scrub of it and saw at least 50 dupe
    files.

    I'll try the Xp firewall........

    Stay tuned for upcomming events,

    Now that is strange.

Turned off ZA, turned on XP Firewall.
I had to add FF and MOZ to the exceptions list in the firewall, no problem.
Now bestbuy (one of the worst about loading) loads fine in MOZ but still
hangs in FF. Seems like other sites are following suit also.

So, maybe a different setting between FF and MOZ??

More sites seem to load completely using the XP Firewall tho - good shot!

    thanks,
    savagcl

    Even stranger -

under mozilla, bestbuy loads in less than 2 seconds (completely loaded).
under FF, bestbuy takes 10-13 seconds and is still stopping at 98/99%.

    Same-same for this site (windowsBBS).

I might have to dump FF. Only got it because it was supposed to run faster
than mozilla, just because of the lower overhead but its not looking like that
    anymore.

I wish, sometimes, that computers could be placed side by side, because of the problems reported are not problems at all. I have Cox cable, and, although it has been recently upgraded for speed, I don't see anything which you reported.
Windowsbbs.com is a tab, so it must load as I open FF, but bestbuy.com opens so fast that I can't time it, and it indicates that it is completely open.
I have Zone Alarm 5.5 free. My Cache is set at 30,000 Kb. Don't ask why. I just like that number.
