Saw all the posting and suggestions re missing mail account etc... I have very similar problem, but my complete ACCOUNT is just gone! No INbox, sent, drafts etc! I've lost tons of valuble data! And all of one addressbook only. When I click on mail box link, I get a message asking if I want to set up a Email Account??! I want/need to recover what was there, not set up another account. What happened to mine??!! Thanks.
You have a problem if there is nothing on the Hard Drive, but if you don't see your mail or are prompted to create a new account, means that your program has lost the link to the hard drive.
This has been discussed at other posts, and, you problem has been reported repeatedly. Cause or causes? I really don't know, but this may have happened because there was an improper removal of the previous version. Not sure, but it happened to me, when, on purpose I installed one Mozilla version on top of the other (not uninstalling it), and I got the same response as you, although I had also "lost" my bookmarks, as well. Everything was in place on the hard drive, and using the procedure from the link on post#12 by Ramona should fix things up.
But you may want to check first your profile .
You may not need to create a new profile, but it may be the safest way to go. But, you can always create the same account, using the same settings. Also, then go to the location of your profile, which you have from Ramona or my link. If you copy the old Inbox, it will overwrite the new one, so you will want to rename the old file. As you will see each folder has a corresponding file with no extention (Inbox) and one as Inbox.msf which is the header file.
I don't know why you would have only one Address Book, not knowing your set up.
Check what I asked you to, and, accept it. I, really, wish that people in a situation like yours would tell us of what was done in the past. It would make troubleshooting much easier.
For your information, I had 12 different accounts and five address books when I had my problem. It took me a while to get everything back, although I knew what I was doing, but, it should be easier if you have a single account.
I hope that you will get back on track, and tells what you did.
