So0o0Confused,

How about giving us some links to the pages where this happens. Have you checked the "Allowed Sites" under the Advanced option, to ensure the sites aren't on your Allowed list?

There are some sites, http://home.netscape.com as a matter of fact, which override the Popup Blocker...

I call them pop-afters, since they show up only on closing the browser. And, they happened for a couple of days. I must have visited some website which manages to by-pass the blocker. In almost each case, they were from, but just as a vehicle of ar.atwola.com, which an arm of AOL. It did no good to do anything but setting to block cookies. But, the only effective solution was to set cookies for the session only. I still don't know which website gave me the present, but I have not seen anything in three days.

I am also experiencing this and I suspect many more people may be as well. As noted by others in this thread they appear to be activated "on exit" from the browser, and preferences appears to make no difference. I'm using Netscape 7.2 and currently have -0- sites accepted for pop-ups yet I'm still getting them. I also believe this is a exclusively a 7.2 problem as I have used Netscape 7.1 for some time without ever running into this. It doesn't happen all that often, but I fear that this little trick might become quite prevalent in the future if they find it is working.

I got one this morning from here:
http://money.cnn.com/2005/03/16/news...ex.htm?cnn=yes
That popped up a page for media38.fastclick.net. I was off-line at the time, so I know for certain it was upon closing the browser tab and it gave me a "page not found" error when it tried to open.

From looking at the page source I'm guessing it is a javascript trick, but my knowledge of javascript isn't enough for me to figure out just

Welcome to the Forum, Lippe!

Lippe,

I went to the page you referenced using Netscape 7.2, then exited the browser, and there were no windows left after exit, and no popups?

Have you double checked your Privacy settings to ensure you have enabled the "Block Unrequested Popup Windows"?

In this day and age it would be pretty darn hard to not notice if you had it off

It is on, and from the fact that I get very few I suspect it is primarily working as intended. I have also noticed that when I try to return to a page to see if it does it again it does not. Even after a reboot the money.cnn page I previously posted won't do it again to me.

I don't suppose you have java disabled on that computer do you? Or cookies? Either one might explain something.

I don't recall having a problem of that type described with NS7.2 or Mozilla1.7.5.
But, I have seen some pop-afters (and -under) in Firefox 1.0x. But, the link given worked fine with NS7.2 and FF1.01.
When I had a problem, it persisted, and only entering the site as an exception for cookies. I have a trick for Firefox, but not for Netscape. I don't even recall which anti-spyware, I think Spyware Blaster does the trick, by entering all objectionable websites in the Cookie's exceptions. Fastclick.com and .net are two of the items.

It's because popup writers found a way to use Flash to get around Firefox and Netscape's popup blockers. The only thing we can do is wait for updated versions to be released.
