I am using Mozilla 1.7.5 now and was using Mozilla 1.7.3 but could not access my Preferences by going to Edit-Preferences[nothing happens] when I un-installed 1.7.3 and installed 1.75 I could access it the first time it was loaded but can't now. Am running Win 98SE. I have deleted all my msf files in the mail & newsgroups and the history .dat and history .mab and the cache folder and the panacea.dat files to no avail. Any ideas. When I shut down Mozilla it looks closed but if I do a ctrl-alt-delete in it is still running and I have to close it by end task.

From Husker to Husker, I have a very firm, I don't know, about deleting all that stuff. There is no reason to do it. Since you went after the .msf files, I wonder if you checked Edit|Preferences in Mail (there is also Mail and News Settings). If you use Quick Launch, uncheck it, (Edit|Advanced), or if you can't access at all your preferences, turn off the mozilla icon in the Systray. I don't use Quick Launch because it causes more harm than good, but I think that you can shut it off directly from the systray (right click?).
In my case, all the updates from 1.7 on gave me some problems, and I got fed up, and created another profile, expressly for 1.7.5, while runs like a well-oiled machine.
I do not use quicklaunch and I will give the pref.js file a shot. Thanks--I did creat a new bland profile with no extensions or plugins but the same.????????
I un-installed the Moz 1.7.5 and all folders and created a new profile and re- installed Moz 1.7.3 and am getting along fine but am starting to put my extension back on and I will see how that goes.
