Saving anything in Netscape takes forever.

I've noticed that when I try to save anything in Netscape (images, web pages, text files, etc.), it seems to take several seconds before the request will kick in the download manager. At first I just thought it was my anti-virus checking it enroute or something along those lines. But when I was helping my wife logged on to her account, everything downloaded extremely fast with no hesitation. I setup a new account, and found the same thing as my wife's. What could have happened in my account to mess up how things are being downloaded? Andmost importantly, how do I fix it or transfer all of the stuff from my profile into a new one without transferring the 'problem'? (I've read Ramona's threads on how to transfer a profile to another drive - but would any of those files be part of the problem?)

    Welcome to the Forum, tcd2000!

    tcd2000,

Before you create a new Profile try a few workarounds first:

Click on Tools | Download Manager
Press CTRL+A (This highlights the entire list of downloads)
Click on the "Remove from list" Tab
    Close the Download Manager

Now try to download a file and see if this helped.

What Version of Netscape are you using?

    Unable to remove files

    Ramona,

Went to tools/download manager. When I clicked, it took a while for the manager to come up. I ctrl+a'd the list (which has never been cleared byt the way - didn't know I was supposed to - thought it cleared itself after so many days or months) and clicked on the remove from list button. Then I just sat and watched it for about 15 minutes at which point it told me that it had stopped responding. Clicked on the "x" to close the manager, and it closed along with Netscape. Any suggestions?

Just upgraded to Netscape 7.2 thinking it would fix the problem, it didn't.

    tcd2000,

Oh my, never? What you will have to do is to delete the downloads.rdf file in the *.slt folder. This will delete everything, and give you a fresh start. You will want to clean up the Download Manager on a frequent basis...

See this reference: Preventive Browser Maintenance

Let us know if you should continue to have problems.

    It worked!
And here I thought I knew a little about the quirks when it came to fixing stuff. All I can say is - You're Good! :)

    Thanks again.

    tcd2000,

Glad your Download Manager is empty and ready for the next download!
