Problems with SMTP (Netscape 7.2)

I wonder if anyone has experienced this problem and can give me a hand.
I have Netscape 7.2 on Windows XP, and the frustration comes from the fact that I cannot send literally anything. I send a test to my Hotmail accounht and it went through, but that was about it - in all other cases I am getting an error message:

Sendind message failed.
The message could not be sent because SMTP server has failed. The server may be unavailable or refusing SMTP connections (which is NOT TRUE, I shpould not be able to sent to Hotmail then!!). Please verify that your smtp server setting is correct, or else contact your network administrator. (which I did, but it did not help).

I have the same combination of XP and Netscape 7.2 in the office, but never had any problems of this nature.

Thank you,

Lada Gromova

Lada,
Hotmail is a Webmail, i.e. a mail account which you, usually, access at the website. If you are having problems at the website, it is a different thing that problems with the mail account.Like, what type of account are you using? But, from what you say, you were sending to the Hotmail acct., and not from it.
I have had experience like yours, when I tried to send an e-mail, and the account required authentication, i.e. that you are the one sending the e-mail.

To:Ramona

Dear Ramona, I did what what prescribed, but it did not help. Even though I like Netscape 7.2, I am now thinking of using it for browsing only, and using an earlier version for mail.
I guess I'll give it a try..

To: Westside

Thank you for your reply, I was sending TO Hotmail, just as a test, and was hoping it would work for any other outgoing mail, but it did not.

gromova,

Perhaps we should clarify whether this errors occurs with your POP3 account or your Netscape Webmail Account?
