I did a totaly dumb thing I tried useing Netscape 7.1 and I am not at all happy with it.

I went to try and unistall it under the add delete files and it just locks up my system, I looked on the web page for help doing this, under their help topic to unistall this horrid thing.

I looked on their website for help to unistall it and all I could find was Call them and pay to have them help you. Well I feel you should not have to pay someone to tell you how to get rid of a very icky browser.

I do alot of work from home and it is not supported by this browswer so I need it gone as fast as I can.

I even tried to switch back to I.E but you can not even do that.

It seems once you install Netscape and click yes I would like to make this my default browser you are stuck with it.

It is looking like the only way to get rid of it is to Formate my system, I just did this a few weeks ago because of a Viruse, I really do not wish to do so again.

Please any help would be great, I need to get Netscape gone as fast as I can so I can get back to work.

Thank you so much in advance.

Did you go to IE>Tools>Internet options>Programs Tab and check at the bottom for IE to check for default browser? Or.. Control Panel>Internet Options and do the same.

I can switch back and forth between IE and Mozilla with no problem.

When you open IE it will ask if you want to make IE the default. It doesn't make any difference if Netscape is still installed or not.

If there is a part of Netscape open, I think there will be a problem removing it.

I even tried to open IE and all I get is netscape, It moved in took over and is total control of my system.

I have never ever ran a program that you can not uninstall or even get help for.

Their website does not offer any type of help, they only have feedback and the freely admit they get so much they do not read it all nor reply.

I am about to format my system again, and what little bits of data I was able to save last time will be lost. Sadly my back up disks got corrupted.

    Lierin001,

You should have no problem uninstalling Netscape through Add/Remove. Is this what you meant by "add delete files "?

This is what I would suggest: reinstall the Netscape full install over the existing install, which might allow you to uninstall thru Add/Remove program.

If this doesn't work you may have to uninstall manually if Netscape's install log is missing. Without the log, the uninstall cannot know which files to uninstall.

First you should try to manually run the uninstaller. Either one of these should start the uninstaller, assuming you have an install log.

    C:\program files\Netscape\Netscape\uninstall\NSUninst.exe
    C:\WINNT\NSUninst.exe

Additionally, try to run the GRE uninstaller. One of these should work, assuming you have an install log.

    C:\program files\Common Files\mozilla.org\GRE\1.4f2003062408\uninstall\GREUninstall.exe
    C:\WINNT\GREUninstall.exe

If these fail, you may have to uninstall netscape by manually deleting files and registry entries.
