illegal operation

I am using windoze xp and I am getting "this program has performed an illegal opeation and will be shut down" when I am accessing the bookmarks and addresses using netscape communicator 4.8. This happens on all four of the profiles netscape has. I had originally received this error when I was using 4.78. When I first got the error I ran Defrag but to no avail. I upgraded to 4.8 and still I get the same error message.

I have installed mozilla and hoped that it would have imported the bookmarks and addresses but when I open the program they are not in there, again this is for all four profiles.

Is there a way for me to tell if the addresses and bookmarks are corrupt? If they are not can I copy them from the netscape folder and paste them into mozilla.. or is that even possible?

Didn't find the information you thought to find?

xyzon,

When you installed Mozilla, did you get this window: Screen Shot This tells you that your Communicator Profile is being converted to Mozilla.

See: Profiles Folder Location for your OS

Export the Address Book in Communicator 4.8 as an LDIF file in order to Import it into Mozilla. It will not be converted, as well as security certificates. If you have uninstalled Communicator, then you may want to reinstall until you have converted all four Profiles.

These files plus others are located in the salted folder which consists of random characters, and the extension .SLT (294bc8g.slt). This is a subfolder of your ~\Application Data\Mozilla\Profiles\profilename directory

To convert the Profiles to Mozilla:
Close Mozilla
Open the Profile Manager.
Start | Programs | Mozilla | Profile Manager.

In the Profile Manager dialog, select the profile you want to convert. A dialog will walk you through the conversion process. Do this for each Profile.

Post back with any further questions.

Ramona

I have tired to export the address books from each profile. I can only get into the addressbook, I don't even get to click on file and then export before it comes up with the illegal operation on each profile.
