I've been trying to resolve a download problem with NS 7.1.

When I try download from http://www.serif.com/downloads.asp
the cursor briefly show the hourglass but never downloads. There are no error messages.

I can download from other sites.

When I switched to I.E. (forgive me Father, for I have sinned) there was no problem downloading.

Another user with NS 7.1 had no problem downloading.

I kind of remember having this problem a long time ago, but don't remember what the solution was.

I had a similar problem with mozilla (v1.4, I think). I reinstalled it or repaired it (not sure which) and the problem was gone.

When I had that problem it show the download dialog box very briefly, but nothing was downloaded. That was for downloading images.

Thanks. I reloaded NS and that did in deed take care of the problem. I didn't suspect NS because some sites allowed me to downoad.

    Cal E and leeleeleelee,

When you reinstalled Netscape, it installed pristine files, none of which were corrupt. The culprit is the compreg.dat file, which becomes easily corrupt, and prevents downloading. The file is located in:
    C:\Program Files\Netscape\Netscape\components folder.

In the future, if this problem should pop up again, delete the compreg.dat file, and it will be regenerated on a restart of Netscape. Ensure that Netscape and Quick Launch are closed before editing.

See this page for more information:
