Question OK, bookmark file still corrupt. Now what?

Hi,
my NS7.1 bookmark file became corrupt. I did the rename & import trick. Noticed that only the first change (either adding or deleting) to bookmarks would take effect. Renamed & imported again. Same thing. Noticed also that the Personal Toolbar Folder didn't return to its previous look, i.e. they were in the folder but I couldn't see them on the bar.
I'm guessing my next step is to just create a new bookmark file. So now my question becomes... what's the easiest way to get all my bookmarks into the new file? Importing seemed to import the corruption. Do I have to open each bookmark from the "old" file and bookmark into new file? If so, will I again be adding the corruption??
Thanks - Tony

If you import the contents into a corrupted file, as I understand, you are still going to have a corrupted file. But, of course, we have to define "Import". How do you do it?
If you use a Tools|Import, your file will be corrupted. If you copy the file, from 4.x, you will need to rename it from bookmark.htm to bookmarks.html, and then copy the renamed file, it should replace the corrupted file (Windows will ask you if you want to replace the file).
I am going to stop here, because it is not clear to me what you have been doing.

I use explorer to renmame bookmarks.html to bookmarksBAD.html. Then open NS7.1, creating new bookmark.html file. I then select manage bookmarks>import and import the bookmarksBAD.html. This is suppose to work around the corruption issue, but in my case does not. So my question becomes: what is the least cumberrsome way to get all my bookmarks moved from the bookmarksBAD.html file into the newly created bookmarks.html file?

Got it !

Persistence paid off. After a while the rename & import trick was having NO effect. Even after importing oldbookmarks.html my bookmark folder was the default NS folder! Then I tried a different twist: I copied the oldbookmark.html file, deleted ALL other bookmarks files, renamed oldbookmarks to bookmarks and restarted NS7.1. This time my bookmarks were there & changes are sticking. The one last problem was that my "personal toolbar" bookmarks weren't shown on the toolbar. I went to Manage bookmarks & moved them into a new folder, deleted the personal toolbar folder & then went to View and selected Set As Personal Toolbar Folder.
All is well...for now! - Tony
