Homepage, Preferences

Netscape 6.2
I set Preferences for the Homepage of my choice but it doesn't work. I tried changing to: Blank Page or Last Page Visited. But Navigator still opens with the same page that I didn't select?

Also tried the changes that Ramona recommended for the post down below:
Locking Netscape 7.0 HomePage

Method 1:
It didn't help so I changed it back.

I ran into similar problems when trying to do this with the CCK for Netscape 7.0. I extracted the browser.xpi file out and edited the config.js file with the following:
config("startup.homepage_override_url","http://Your Home Page.html"); I still allowed the homepage override in the all.js and all-ns.js files and this seemed to work for me. Don't know if this will help your situation???

captjlddavis

The spam page is:
http://www.edit.com/

I ran Adaware and my computer shows to be clean.

staceyt

I tried edited the config.js file with the following:
config("startup.homepage_override_url","http://Your Home Page.html");
No help.

I may have to update and install Netscape 7.0 to get rid of this spam page.... seems most folks like 7.0.

arkie,

Sounds like your "Home Page" has been hijacked.

Usually third party programs like Ad Aware can detect and repairs this.

I don't think there is anything within NS that help.

Just for grins, do a search of all the *.js files containing the text "http/www.edit.com". I don't think you will find any.

Thanks to Dennis L for the following

"For those who use and waiting for Ad-aware's newest release, it is now available. There home site is up, but is still under contruction, but ther forum site seems to be stable. Here is a page that contains a "list of dowload" sites.
http://www.lavasoftusa.com/support/download/
As with any "new release"... travel with caution. Have up-to-date backups, well maintained file sets......"

If you decide re-install NS, upgrade to NS 7.01 - there are several very good stripped down versions available.

As I have not experienced this phenom I can't give you any detailed assistance.

Hang in there and please keep us posted.

Yes, I had updated to Ad-aware 6.0.

A couple weeks back my IE 6 browser was hijacked but I caught it, changed my homepage back with no problem. I then ran Ad-aware 5.83.... with some help from me it removed the **** "Xupiter"=
At this same time Xupiter may have also infected my Netscape 6.2 browser.

Thanks

arkie,

As mentioned before, I haven't had this experience so I am just prowling around.

Did you try a registry search for the offending http ?

I would think Ad Aware wud locate anything ascew, but I am not familiar enough with it so I can't really comment.

Please keep in mind that if you do PROWL around in the regstry or anyplace else

BACK UP FIRST

I'll continue to look around and I am sure that others are following along also.

Keep the faith.

I notice when I first open the browser "edit" appears on the Location Bar then changes to http://www.edit.com/

OK, I searched and found 2 files "edit.com".
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\EDIT.COM
MS-DOS Application

Seems strange that they are in WINDOWS and not in Netscape?

"edit.com" is actually dos program, haven't seen/used it in years. That is not effecting NS .

Did you find any other reference to that HTTP in the registry ?

Do a reg search for "Netscape" and see if anything strange shows up.

Not having the problem on my box, I really don't know what to look for ?

We're still with ya.....

No reference to that HTTP in the registry.

Wonder why edit.com is used in W-XP?
