Exclamation Netscape 7.0 Email Password problems

Hello,

I am currently converting over to Linux from Windows. I have SuSE 8.0 right now. It came with Netscape 6.2, but I upgraded it to 7.0.

Currently I have 3 email accounts. I have it auto-checking for email every 2 minutes on each account. It keeps asking me for my password (sometimes it does, sometimes it doesnt). Each time that it asks, I put in my password and select "Remember my password". It will work for a half hour or so and I will come back to check email and it is requesting my password again. I have re-installed Netscape 7.0, as well as removing and re-inserting all 3 email accounts (start from scratch several times, but to no avail). I looked it up on the web and the closest thing that I could find was here: http://home.att.net/~cherokee67/ns62mailpswd.html

If anyone has any suggestions I would be happy to hear them (and very grateful too...)

I don't know whether this will help or not, but it says comes up with a popup before asking for the password saying: "The PASS command did not succeed. Mail server mail.charter.net responded: connection closed by peer"

Thank you!

My System

Welcome to the Forum, rhaynes!

Hi rhaynes,

First the basics, since you said you have entered and re entered you Password, we can eliminate that setting.

Use Windows "Find" to locate prefs.js. Right-click, select Properties. Check the File Attributes, and verify that it has not been flagged READ ONLY.

By chance are you running any third party killfile programs, etc. If so, disable, and see if your Password Manager works.

I should also mention that most ISP's like a longer time interval for checking Mail. Try setting it to 10 minutes for checking Mail.

The error you have received usually is due to Server problems, or to incorrect Server settings.
