Resolved Unable to compose new or forward email using Firefox and Yahoo! Mail

For quite a while I have been unable to compose new email in Yahoo! Mail when using Firefox. The new email page opens, the cursor appears in the To: window, but the program is completely frozen. I am also not able to forward email using this combination of programs. The message is basically "Have found the email but having problem loading it. "However if I use Google Chrome there is no problem.

Has anyone else had compatibility problems with Firefox and Yahoo! Mail? I have updated both programs regularly but it makes no difference. There seem to be a lot of Firefox updates recently. I have sent feedback to Mozilla but they don't reply to my emails. Yahoo! don't seem to care either.

I have not reloaded my PC with Java since the scare about security issues. Could this be the cause of my problems?

 

Have you tried a fresh install of Firefox?

Uninstall Firefox, reboot, use IE to download and install Firefox.

 

Thanks for tip Spyware Dr. I did everything as you suggested. Absolutely no difference at all. Here is the message when I try to forward an email. The compose screen is still frozen.

"Yahoo! Mail found the original email, but encountered problems displaying it. Please try again later. "

This message has been appearing at all times and every day for about 10 days. As I said, absolutely no problem using Google Chrome. I did keep the bookmarks etc. Could the problem be here?

 

Try downloading and installing Chrome and only enable Java when you need it. With Chrome and Java installed you get the option in the top right hand corner of enabling Java in selected sites - Note the red Cross x. When you do this, you need to refresh the page to proceed.

Yes, I think your issue is a Java problem, however I do not have Firefox to try.

Thank you for the advice, tallin. I have already pointed out that the Yahoo! Mail program works fine in Chrome, just not in Firefox. I don't seem to have had any problems with any other programs since I removed Java.

I think I have solved my problem, but not the compatibility problem.

I saw this reference to Sea Monkey so downloaded it. In the Sea Monkey browser, Yahoo! Mail works as in Chrome - absolutely no problem with composing or forwarding.

So it looks as though I will be using Sea Monkey instead of Firefox for browsing and Yahoo! Mail. The presentation of Yahoo! Mail is virtually identical. I am really not very interested in sorting out Mozilla's problems for them, as this has been something quite recent and has happened after I removed Java but only since Version 17 of Firefox.

Unless anyone else has had a similar experience, I will mark this as Resolved after a day or two, although the problem still exists. I will give others a chance to voice an opinion.

 

Creating a new message in Yahoo! with Firefox 19.0, (on Windows 7 Pro 64-bit, without Java installed), works fine here.

Wouldn't touch Yahoo with a barge pole. We've had massive problems in NZ with Yahoo Extra.
At least 3 compromises of Passwords for users who had to try and change their Passwords. Accounts were taken over by virus which emailed all addresses in accounts.
I use Mozilla Firefox Version 19 and Thunderbird V 17.03 and no problems. I use gmail as provider and have not had any problems in 8 months usage.

Yahoo have lost untold support in NZ because of infection which locked people out of their email for days at a time. Neil.

 

I agree. Gmail, or Outlook.com are better choices.

In response to your experience in NZ, this is obviously a personal one. I have used Yahoo! Mail (don't know Yahoo Extra) for upwards of 10 years and this is the first time the program has let me down. I did once click on a link in an email from someone I trusted, and ended up by having many contacts reply telling me that I had been infected by some malware. But that was my own stupid fault, I was not thinking that day. I did not lose access to my account. I did a scan with AVG Anti-virus and it was detected and removed. No problems since.

In as much as I cannot see much of a difference between SeaMonkey and Firefox, I will continue to use SeaMonkey for my Yahoo! Mail. I have many bookmarks in Firefox which I am reluctant to give up, so will keep it. I have both Outlook (ex Hotmail) and Gmail accounts, but they are for specific activities.

In as much as no one else has reported the compatibility problem with Yahoo! Mail and Firefox, I will close this thread as it is clearly another unique problem with my laptop. Perhaps it is time to think of retiring it.

I am using Thunderbird 17 and Firefox 19. I have no problems with Thunderbird. They are both up to date.

I have been experiencing this problem too.. Unable to type in any of the fields for the last few weeks in a new yahoo webmail message. Yet works fine on explorer.
I now have it fixed. In Firefox select tools/add-ons/extensions
Disable all extensions and restart firefox. Try to create a new message in yahoo mail to see if problem still persists. If the problem is fixed you should try by process of elimination turning off/on individual extensions till you have isolated the problem one.


For me the problem was the AVG Do Not Track firefox plugin which i've been using for a long time.

 

Thanks for the tip , jermy. I did as you recommended, and found that in fact all my add-ons had been disabled, but some had not been removed. I removed the ones I could remove, but could not remove the AVG Security Toolbar. The only option was Enable/Disable. So it is disabled. I do not really need any so will not bother to replace them - things like HP Detect??????

My plugins do not seem to a cause of any problems, so I will leave them well alone.

However, I am pleased to say that I can now forward and compose email using Firefox. Thanks again. I think it really is a pain the way software programs insert unwanted and often incompatible features into browsers. Every time one downloads a new bit of software it is necessary to look closely at the download instructions to stop all the cr%p from being installed as well. This has been a salutary lesson for me.

 

When Firefox updates, it usually checks to see if the Add ons/Extensions are compatible at the time of the update.
If they aren't compatible, you are advised to check again later. Neil.

 

I have noticed that the Skype 'Click to Call' add-on is not compatible with Firefox but have not seen any others flagged up. As long as the program continues to behave I shall leave well alone. If it starts to misbehave in the future I will know what sort of things are likely culprits.

In my own research into this issue i found a number of add-ons or extensions that seem to have made yahoo mail unusable (cannot compose a new message)..

If anyone is reading this and has same problem just switch off your add-on/extensions/plugins in firefox one by one and restart firefox..find out by process of elimination which one is playing up.. BTW arthur.. i used to live over in kent too .. in ashford..

 

I have set up both Yahoo and Gmail in Thunderbird, with no problem. But, after updating Firefox to v.19.0.2, I composed and sent an e-mail from my Yahoo address, from Firefox to my Gmail address. No problem seen.
