I have this strange problem. While pressing the space bar plus up arrow key plus left arrow key the computer beeps and the left key doesnt get registered.
It works fine with the others.

On windows xp this didn't happen, and currently I have the same computer, only changed to Windows 7.

I finally had a chance to actually see what real world benifits win 7 (64 bit) can provide me. I kept asking myself if all the tweaks and migration was worth it. :) I'm not much interested in the fancy shmancy Aero stuff. My system is:

Win 7 Pro (64 bit)
Intel(R) Core(TM) i7 CPU 860 @ 2.80GHz
8 GB of DDR3-SDRAM (1333 MHz)
Boot drive is a WD VelocityRaptor 300 GB 10K
Data is written to a WD Caviar Black 2TB drive 7200RPM/64 MB cache (new kid)

Iv'e yet to read about a test using a professional Video Editing package. This kind of software really streses the system. Memory, CPU speed, and drives all get stress tested. Drives have to be fast or you drop frames. All the other system components have to be tuned for this task. I used Sony Vegas Pro 9.0c. The 64 bit version which has not had a lot of tweeaks for Win 7 but runs fine under Vista 64.

I used a few High Def video clips down sampled for the project. Rendered at 720x 480 - 29 frames/second bit rate of 30307KBPS Data Rate of 28771 KBPS. Audio bit rate of 1536KBPS 2 channels sterio and audio sample rate of 48 KHz. The project has 5 clips with 5 different transitions between clips.

The rendered .avi file is 276 MB and the clip is a tad over one minute long (00.01:16). Render time was an amazing 1 minute and 2 seconds. On my old machine (Pentium slug) this render would take over 25 minutes and sometimes droped frames. During the render I had Task Manager running to see exactly what those 8 processors were doing via the i7 chip. CPU usgae bounced between 70% and 85%. Memory usage never went over 30%. NOTE: their are a zillon rendering settings in Vegas Pro depending where the final destination of the video is. Some don't stress the system much so since these are the settings I often work with and I have hiostorical data on the old render times I chose these settings.

I would love to hear your own experiences? Their is great value for all of us to learn exactly what kind of performance improvements Win 7 (64 bit) can provide. It formatted the "C" drive (partition) and then ask for signed
driver (I have no idea what it wanted).

Finally, I did a hardboot, and the install restarted, but
started saying no bootmgr, or primary partition, several
times.

Did another coldboot and told the install to use "D"
partition. Dont know what happened but it did finish the installation.

Results: When it boots, it shows a screen with Windows 7
listed twice (as in a multiboot). If i select the 1st win7,
everything is norma, bootup is from the"C" partition.

When i selected the 2nd OS, it said "Updating registry"
then showed the install screen "continuing install". Of
course, it wouldn't accept the windows key when that
screen showed.

On the "D" drive i see a file called $Windows.~bt.
On the "G" partition i can see a Windows folder that looks
identical to the windows folder on "C".

So, question is how do i get rid of the multiboot and the
windows folder on the "G" partition?

Windows did re-letter the partitions.

In frustration, i powered down/up, then it started saying it

Finally, i started from scratch and told it to install to a
different partition (than C). So now it thinks i'm in a multi-boot environment!!

Plus, I can setup my desktop with the colors and settings
i want but win7 ignores most of them and i'm stuck with
the windows logo and colors.
And, trying to create a repair disk works but trying to
create a system image DVD, will ask 6/7 times to
format the DVD, same with selecting a full backup!

So either i'm dumb (a good possibility), or i still dont have
a good install.....

If I could go back to XP or vista I would (tried vista during
the above problem (driver, bootmgr) but nope.

It seems to be reorging the DB. I've turned off all defrag activities, etc and the process still occurs. Any help with this is greatly appreciated. After upgrading an HP dv6-1244XT notebook from pre-installed Vista Home Premium 32-bit to Windows 7 Home Premium 32-bit (provided by HP through the upgrade program), I checked that the installed Windows 7 on the HP notebook had been activated (Start > type and select "activate windows"). It was already a month ago.

But there were some issues that HP could not resolved. So, I tried to investigate the problem. I used the HP provided Windows 7 DVD disc to install Windows 7 on another notebook (but this time I un-checked the "automatic activation" during installation.) But after the installation, I found that the Windows 7 was activated on the test notebooke. (Looks to be loophole).

But on the next day, the HP notebook prompted me for activation AGAIN. I entered the same product key but not accepted. Windows 7 prompted me with a few options including enter a new product key, or contact Microsoft. I clicked contact Microsoft but it became HP Customer Assistant screen that could not detact my Internet connection. So I got no help from Microsoft nor HP on this issue.

I think I need to de-activate the license on the test notebook, and try to re-enter the license key on the HP notebook.
