Outlook Express - why do I get spam sent to another address?

Seems to me that the whole email business is so complex and arcane that very few folks, including my ISP, fully understand it. My provider's helpdesk people (situated somewhere in the jungles of South-East Asia, apparently) certainly don't understand the system, and even Mr.Gates seems powerless to do anything about spam.

Case in point: Today I received an Outlook Express email. The preview pane header reads:
From: Marcelo Rojas To: colin.walter@xnet.co.nz

Now, I have no clue as to who Marcelo Rojas might be, which is to be expected. But the apparent recipient, colin.walter, is NOT me.

OK, if I right click the email listing in the upper pane and select Properties > Details, I can see Marcelo's address, officials@remaaz.com, which may or may not be genuine. And there, following the words "Delivered to' is my real address.

So where does "colin.walter" fit into the equation? Why do spammers insert these 'third party' labels when it's such an obvious give-away that this is junk mail? I mean, I'm far more likely to read something addressed to me than to someone unknown.

Another annoyance that really bugs some of my customers is when they receive emails that are purportedly from themselves. This isn't too hard to fix with a Mail Rule that consigns all mail from oneself to a separate folder, but it's a nuisance, nonetheless.

As I said, I have a feeling that the whole system is so complicated that it's only fully understood by the very few people who've found a way to use it to their advantage.

After my computer has been on for a little bit (anywhere from a half hour on), my internet just suddenly stops. This happens on both Firefox and IE. When I check my network connection, I have a full signal, so I know it's not my connection. The problem instead seems to be that the computer decides not to put the connection through to the browser (or Outlook Express). Instead, I get blank pages with the bottom left corner reading "Done."

The only way that I have found to fix this is to reboot. Changing networks doesn't work either, which leads me to believe that something happens after a while that prevents any web-based application from receiving the network signal, even though I have full connectivity.

Any ideas as to what's causing this or how it could be fixed?

If you wanted a certain icon to appear in your system tray each and everytime you rebooted your system how would you go about doing it? I know that you can go into Taskbar and Start Menu properties and click Always Show. However, doing this does not make sure it appears when the system is rebooted, or at least it doesn't in my case.

I have a specific icon I want to appear, and the older version of the program did exactly that, but the new program does not. Nothing I have tried so far has worked to keep the icon in the system tray after reboot. Once I turn it off at night the next morning when I check into Taskbar and Start Menu properties it says Hide When Inactive.

Anyone have any ideas? As always I appreciate all replies and I would thank you in advance.

John
