Hi guys,

I just updated my spybot S&D to version 1.6.2.0 and had it run a check.
Since it has more then 700000 items in its list, I went back to the living room and let it do its thing. After I came back, I found a dialog box telling me the system has crashed and to send the report to MS. After I did that, Spybot S&D wanted me to send a report about the crash to them. So I did.
I rebooted to clear any thing that could affect the way my computer runs.
After it was back up, all, except 1 icon, are missing from the systray on the right side next to the time. The only icon that was visible was the network icon ( 2 Monitors ).
After rebooting several more times, I now have 4 icons in my systray. Still missing is the speaker icon and my screen capture icon. Also, it takes longer to boot up. It seems to me that it hangs or “spends a lot of time” at the “loading your personal settings” screen. Once it is up and running it works normally ( as far as I can tell).

Any idea on what happened and why? I am afraid to run it again in fear of what may happen the next time.

Is this some form of probing, or what? I have trapped all these and send them to a garbage area. The messages tend to have a consistent signature and I am able to filter them in my software. But I'm still curious; does anybody know what this kind of spam is all about?

Hi, I would like to get advice on software, which my family member has. I would like to know if it is any good, and whether or not my recommendation is better than what she has.

The family member of mine that I am talking about has Panda Security. Specifically, "Panda Endpoint Protection and Panda Endpoint Agent”.

My recommendations for my family member are to get Zone Alarm and Avast Anti-Virus.

I would like to know if Panda products my family member has, is any good in today’s current world. How does Panda compare to the specific two programs I have suggested to my family member. In addition, which should my family member go with?

The family member of mine that I am talking about got Panda from a friend. Therefore, if anything happens, the original information used to activate Panda is not with in immediate reach.

This is the sole reason why I recommended the two programs above for my family member. I use them on my pc myself, so I trust their dependability.

Please provide clear feedback upon this matter.

Thank you all in advance for providing positive insight into this subject of mine.

Sincerely,

broni,

My hubby's laptop has gone from bad to worse, as far as updating SAS and MBAM. He was unable to update on and off for awhile. Now, since Oct 30, he is unable to download updates. Both programs give a message that the definitions are up-to-date. Of course, they are not. I am updating MBAM manually by copying the rules.ref file from my computer to his. I have posted at the respective forums but received no replies, as yet.

Scans with Avira, SAS and MBAM show no malicious items, except that MBAM did find this:

Registry Data Items Infected:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Control Panel\Homepage (Hijack.Homepage) -> Bad: (1) Good: (0) -> No action taken.

I believe this could be from SAS protecting home page from being hijacked.

Would it be possible to have a look at a HijackThis log to see if there is something wrong there? Or do you suggest something else.

Any help would be appreciated.

Hi,
I notice that this Trojan steals information as well as makes changes to the Registry, so I need to be sure it did not make these changes prior to my notification by Avira that it was on my computer.
I have a printout of broni's previous instructions. Do I follow that?
