Hello and thank you for taking the time to read this.

I have recently reformatted my computer and upgraded it from XP Home 32-Bit to XP Pro 64-Bit, everything seems to be great except that Windows Media Player 11 will not include audio when playing any of my videos or mp3 song files that are still on my external harddrive. All of the other audio and sound effects for Windows work flawlessly, so I know its not an issue with my speakers or volume control/muting.

I have a Creative Sound Blaster audio card and from what I can find I have no other on board audio card enabled. I updated the driver for the Multimedia Audio Controller with no luck, so I went back and uninstalled it in order to just leave my sound card by itself.

This is the first time I have posted on a forum asking for help with this problem but I have tried every suggestion I could find on other forums to fix this problem with still no luck.

I have tried different versions of the AC3 audio codecs, numerous XP Video Codec packs and even uninstalling and reinstalling WMP v. 11 and v. 10 a few different times. I have also tried a bunch of suggestions from other forums including configuring the AC3 patch and attempting anything else I could with the device manager with yet still no luck.

Sometimes after attempting some of these solutions I have restarted and watched a few videos and the audio works fine, but on further inspection and with more video/audio file opening, it goes back to silence within a few minutes again.

WMP is my player of choice, and I really would love to have it back working like it did before I upgraded. If anyone can offer any solutions or help me diagnose this problem it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for your time.

What would be the proper procedure in acquiring an activation code. The laptop is a Gateway that was purchased new a few years ago and the owner no longer has the software that came along with the unit, hence the reason I installed one of my copies. For some unknown reason my corporate version blue screens after every attempted install which is the reason I'm using a retail version.

access to my family members. At that point I begun logging in as administrator
with a password.
Having read about the possible drawbacks of such habit, I now created a new
user with "limited powers" using the tools available in the Control Panel.
Now, when I switch-on the computer, I should have the choice of starting as Administrator or a user bearing my name. In fact this is what is shown on the desktop.
But I must have neglected some steps of the procedure, since if I try to enter
as myself and not as Administrator, I get an error warning : Impossible to load the profile- Access not allowed. Can somebody tell me where I was wrong?
Thank you.

Hi everyone,

After installing Avira anti-virus on recommendation it completely cleared out essential files including System Restore and Windows Mediaplayer, making IE practically unusable. I uninstalled Avira tout suite, but had no System Restore to fall back on to try to recover these files.

The harddrive went to the repair shop for uninstallation and reinstallation of XP from the Windows CD. Unfortunately, it was impractical for me to stand over the repairman for a few hours to watch his every move.

After retrieving the harddrive and deleting some extras which he'd put on and which I didn't want (such as Skype and a few others), I discovered that in all web pages, including my Yahoo! homepage, the clickable graphics, boxed texts and original web page background colors are all missing (including this BBS page).

I've spent the past two days searching the Net, MS Support and BBS forums today, but have found no practical answers, or only those answers which I've already tried but which didn't work.

I really don't want to trust this to any external repair shop again.

How can I get back the clickable graphics, boxed texts and original web page background colors? How can I get my web pages back to how they were before I installed Avira? Can anyone offer a solution, please ?

(An added complication is that there is no backslash on my keyboard. It was replaced by the hash, which was replaced by the £ sign, even though there are two forwardslash keys, one of which whoever did this could have used!)

Thanks in advance.
