I am a beginner to computer logic, but my laptop has gone down and I need it desperatly for my business and my studies. I have a Toshiba that I bought off craigslst about two weeks ago while my four-month old Acer (big mistake??) is being shipped to Texas for a motherboard replacement. Everything has been great w the Toshiba.

The Laptop has Windows 2000. I tried to download MSN Messenger. After messenger installed and I tried to run it, it let me login then said there was an exe. error and had to shut down. I thought maybe restarting Windows was needed to finish the apps install

Well, when the laptop restarted, it went to Windows load screen, then begins to load my background and stops, saying WINLOGON.exe has generated errors and the system needs to reboot. I tried booting in safe mode, and Iget the same message. The only thing I did was try to install messenger, so Im assuming thats the issue! PLEASE HELP! I own a chocolate company and a fairly locally sucssefull marshmallow shop, so I am more than willing to send you a nice goodie box if you can help me out!!!

Houston, we have a problem – I may need to remove a duplicate operating system?
I've somehow managed to get Windows 2000 Professional on my C-drive twice. Oddly, when my computer boots up it does not give me the usual choice of selecting which one I want to use - It just goes right into Windows 2000 Professional.

I know that there are two Win2k Pro operating systems because when doing a repair with the Win2k Pro Installation Disk, it goes through its usual stuff, then when doing a Repair or Recovery Console Fix, it goes to the D-drive and not the C-drive - where I have a Windows Folder and all of my other operating files and programs (I think). The D-drive now has a WINNT folder in it – from yesterday, when I was trying to reinstall Win2k Pro into the C-drive, thinking this might trick Windows into thinking I had only one operation running. Another unusual thing was prior to the D-drive having the WINNT folder in it, it didn’t. What I mean by that is at least it didn’t show up – at all. I had the a "2 Operating systems" problem prior to yesterday. My problem is I don’t know where it is booting into.

When I look in the only boot.ini file I have (found in the C: Root Drive), it mysteriously only shows one operating system as follows:

[boot loader]
timeout=30
default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS
[operating systems]
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows 2000 Professional" /fastdetect

Can I ignore it and install WinXP along with Win2k Pro in a dual-boot scenario? Will I have a problem?

Thanks for the help in advance,
SendEveryone...:confused:

Uh, well, if anyone from the, uh, from the IRS is watching, I... forgot to file my, my, my 1040 return. Um, I meant to do it today, but, uh..." Jack Swigert [on Apollo 13...US income tax returns are due in 2 days, but Swigert is 200,000 miles away]:eek:
