I can't get Courier to open when I want to use an email link in a webpage. I get an Outlook error message that says the ordinal cannot be found. I think it has to do with MAPI settings but when I click on "Help"-->"Courier MAPI Settings..." nothing happens. I have tried going to "Add or Remove Windows Components" and unchecking the "Outlook" box (boy do I hate Outlook), but that didn't seem to make any difference. Does anyone know what I am doing wrong? I am running Windows XP Media Center, have Courier 3.5 Build 1098, and use Internet Explorer 7.
P.S. I am fascinated and amazed by what you guys write back and forth to each other in tech speak, and I am sure that one of you could solve this problem, but if the answer is really complicated can someone please just say so and I will stop trying to make it work.

well, MAPI is not my strength, but.... You mention Outlook. Do you mean Outlook Express? Sounds like IE sees that as your email client. Courier has had difficulty defining itself to WindowsXP and Vista as the default. That was even a problem with the Courier beta project. However, if I recall correctly, Firefox and Opera were able to handle it fine. There is a MAPI setup in Courier that you should also activate. I haven't used 3.5 in over a year, but I do suggest you try Firefox or Opera. There are others here who might have more tips, but that would be my try. good luck,
david
Thanks, David. I have tried Firefox--maybe I should switch back. Do you know how to activate the MAPI options in Courier 3.5? I have not gone to the Beta version, because other than this issue, 3.5 works great for me, and whenever I change anything in my computer, something else always seems to develop a glitch. --Dawn

well, Dawn, I don't think you need to set the MAPI feature. Linking to preferred email may work fine. I don't have 3.5, but there should be an option on the HELP toolbar item to set this and there is a setting under mailbox properties to set Courier as your default email client.
My suggestion:
1. first, install Firefox 3. great browser and relatively safe...
2. set Courier as default email client. That 'should' make it all work.
3. set MAPI if not. (Personally, I don't think it does anything. We removed it from the beta.)
