Question Vista SP1 and Courier

When I try to go on-line with Courier 3.5, after installing Vista SP1, my computer reboots. The MS knowledge base said to get rid of virus scanning of emails, which I have. It still reboots, but I can get it to work in safe mode, which is not much of an option. I paid for Calypso and Courier, so I would like some technical support.

Courier is not compatible with Windows Vista

Sorry but Courier is not compatible with Windows Vista. The current release 3.5 was released long before Vista. We have been trying to get a new Vista compatible version together and are now working with a new developer who will incorporate Couirer features into his own very stable (and Vista compatible) email client and hopefully have it ready for release later this year. A notice will be sent out to all Courier users when this is done or you can also watch the Rose City Software website for update information.

@ katya40, This is probably going to be one of the dumbest suggestions you'll ever hear in regard to this problem. Sine 3.5 wasn't officially compatible with Vista (although persistence did make it function) and the reboot upon going online, to me, sounds like something Courier is incapable of commanding (more if a Vista SP1 issue ... every SP comes with some hiccups, this one is only known to have severe probs on HP machines). Anyway, would it be too much of a bother to simply try installing it again and persist as much as you had to in order to get it to run the first time? Being sort of reintroduced to Vista may possibly do the trick, but I am just guessing since I am sticking with XP and can't run any experiments on a pc with Vista. The beta is fully Vista compatible but in all honesty I would have to say I'd prefer to stick with 3.5 if possible, until the new branded version of Courier is available. However, if all else fails, just grab the last Beta (and expect some problems with stability and some minor problems). It's thread is @ Final Courier 3.6 Beta 1198 Release

I don't by any means intend to disregard RSC-Joe's advice on waiting for the new program to come out, I only wish to say you may want to try the above meanwhile, until the next Courier arrives.

Thumbs up Visya SP1 and Courier

I found a link to a Microsoft page that said that SP1 would fail with any POP3 email program that had an anti-virus checking the emails real time. The workaround was to disable this protection. Since my ISP has very good antivirus, etc protection, I tried that and it works beautifully again. I have Courier running on 2 different Vista machines with little problem. I won't complain.

Please let me be the first to congratulate you and thank you for providing enough info for anyone else having the same problem to look into. A mail program not working well is one thing, but having to put up with untimely reboots has to be a real pain. I'm sure you have just saved quite a few people some headaches as SP1 is still early in deployment and people using Courier and other email programs are likely to run into the exact same problem.

Thanks again.
