Courier Upgrade Project Stopped

It is with regret that I must announce that RoseCitySoftware is shutting down the project to upgrade Courier 3.5. We have tried to achieve this several times and have come to realize that Courier 3.5 is just too old and too out of date to be updated with many of the newer Internet features such as Unicode, SSL, and many other enhancements that people now expect from their email client.

We will continue to make Courier 3.5 available and the most recent beta release for 3.6 will continue to be available from the BBS site. Further, we are pursuing an agreement with a known email software vendor to provide a transition plan for our many Courier users, while including some of the key features that our Courier users have enjoyed. So, yes, our upgrade plan was not successful, but we continue to pursue avenues to keep Courier alive. As soon as we can confirm this new direction, we will have much more information to share. We anticipate that we will know more to tell you within a couple of months. We appreciate the continued support from you, our Courier users.

That's too bad sir... been using it for 8 years. Wish I never get to scrap it :'(

Anyone suggest an alternative client that puts everything in one file like .box?

And is blazingly fast and comes with an option to view HTML messages as plain text?

Hail Calypso/Courier \o\o/o/

At whatever point in the future when Courier no longer works, I will probably switch to Thunderbird, a good client, and free.

I did try it a few years ago and it was okay, but did not have some features I liked that are on Courier.

Sad

This is so unfortunate. I have no other options but to use it for as long as I can. Even now, in this obsolete version, some of its features are so useful and so rare. I am sorry but I have not learnt how to do without it.

I was checking the kind of filtering options many other mail clients have in their latest versions and none comes close to Courier.

This is really sad.

This is very disappointing to say the least. The last beta was very buggy to so I had to rollback to an earlier version. It would be nice to have a stable build with the bug and memory fixes. Oh and the beeping bug fixed on Vista.

Ive tried every email client out there and I always end up going back to Courier. Theres really nothing else like it so I hope you guys figure something out.

Unhappy Project stopped - NO - You Can Do It!

I can't tell you how disappointed I am. I was so looking forward to the new version that I was putting aside money just to purchase the 'final' version (4?).

Now what am I to do? I can find NO other email client that even comes close to Courier, with the plain text/html/filtering and editing features there's just nothing out there to compare.

Please, please reconsider this. Get different programmer(s) that are savvy enough to incorporate, in some fashion the additional features. Even if they can't be added to the core software, perhaps an add-in could handle the needed functionality?

Sincerely,
Courier user for life.

Money and Sweat Equity Where My Mouth Is

I would put down a cash money deposit in advance to keep the upgrade project going.

Or, I would volunteer for a open source development team to take this thing over.

Ditto! I'm willing to pay the price of the software in advance if that helps. I simply can't even think of trying to use something else and I've checked many of them. Although this is an old software, some of the utilities I find in Courier is present in none.

Please do something. I appeal to all users to write here.

Well, I'll certainly commit to buying Courier 4 if it's released and works well.

My System

Buying Courier in advance to help to fund development efforts: $300-$500.

Being able to continue using Courier as my email client: priceless.

I don't know if any of you have ever heard of "Email 2000," but I was using it before Calypso...I think it was the prototype software. I changed to Calypso, then to Courier. There is nothing like it out there. Nothing even close. I can't believe such a superb product can't make it on the open market.

I'm literally losing sleep over the thought of losing Courier!
