I just installed Courier 3.5 on my new Toshiba notebook running Vista Home Premium. Every time I select, copy, delete, or move an email in any of the folders I get a super loud warning BEEP. I never had that problem on my desktop running XP. We disabled all of the antivirus, spyware and other protection software. Still Beeps! We removed all of the Toshiba Utilities using Task Manager. Still Beeps! I removed the 3rd party Yahoo Music utility. Still Beeps. I turned off the speakers. Still beeps! Any ideas?

By-pass the annoying beep by replacing the .wav file
Cash McCall,
C - I was able to by-pass the annoying beep by replacing the .wav file that Courier was playing with a less annoying quiter swishing sound that was hardly heard. Courier uses the .wav files in the C:/i386 folder
Step 1:
Play all the sounds in the C:/i386 folder until you hear the loud annoying sound you are trying to get rid of.
Step 2:
After locating this file - find another .wav sound that is less obtrusive or barely heard and replace the annoying one with the one you want.
To add some clarification. I turned the speakers sound level to 0 and still got that sound. I went to control panel - sounds and turned off all of the windows & explorer "event sounds". Still got the sound. When I totally disabled the speakers the sound stopped. Which of course meant the entire notebook was now mute. I also have Courier running in a Pentium IV 3.0 GHz running XP. It has never has made any sound to select an email. You can turn on a sound effect in Courier when a new email arrives. I have it off in both the PC and the Toshiba.
Hey Bonnerbb: I don't even have an i386 folder I can find anywhere. I temorarily deleted the various .wav files that come with Courier. that did not kill the sound. I think I am getting some core system warning that the Toshiba flavor of Vista feels under attack from Courier.

I have Vista but on another removable drive ...I have yet to test it but I've been so busy I've not had any time, besides the "beep" is the client 3.5 working well with Vista? From update notices that I got I read where the newer vers was compatible with Vista and it's good to hear that you're running 3.5 with Vista, quite frankly I find v3.5 very stable, so, did you figure out what the problem was and does the client work well in Vista? Thanks!
I still have not found the cause or a solution except to turn off the speakers entirely. Because of the distracting noice I gave up trying to use Courier on the Vista machine and went back to an older PC with XP. Except for the sound it seemed to work fine. Vista even automatically recognixed Courier as my default email program over the MS Windows Mail. I will wait for the forthcoming Ver 3.6 which is being designed to run on Vista - sans beeps.
