My System

Default font when replying

Whenever I reply to a message in Courier, the default font is Times New Roman, 12 point. I'd like to change the default to something else, but so far have been unable to find out how, or even if it is possible. The help section makes no mention of this. Can I do it, or must I continue to change the font manually?

Thanks.

Hi, fieldtech.

In Courier:
  • Click Mailbox > Properties > Character Sets tab.
  • In the "Associate Character Set and Font" section, "Compose view font:" field, click the Change button.
  • Choose your desired font.
  • Click the OK button.

I have tried the below but cannot seem to get it to 'stick'.

I want all my emails to type in Century Gothic 10pt with a green font. I can only seem to do this manually on outgoing mails - it keeps going to Arial with no color.

SO - is is possible to set a color for all composed emails and replies?

THX

Mailman,
I found the default compose font that you mentioned (I had changed it years ago when I first started using Courier) and it is set for 10 point Arial. Since it is titled "Compose view font," I assumed that it was just for composing, not replying. Sure enough, my reply font still defaults to 12 point Times New Roman. It's not difficult or time consuming to manually change the font, but I'd like it to happen automatically.

Hi, fieldtech and gnxfan.

I also tried changing my Courier compose font to 10pt Century Gothic and it seems to be buggy. However, I have little experience with using Rich Text in Courier so I suppose I could be missing a setting.

I have my client configured for text only (no HTML or Rich Text) by default so I made some other changes (such as changing my default character set from US-ASCII to ISO-8859-1, as advised in my image attached above.)

Upon opening a reply and clicking the HTML button in Courier (so I could access the Color toolbar button), mine also defaulted to 12pt Times New Roman. I also duplicated this result by clicking the compose message window's Window > Show Rich Text (HTML).

Thought about looking inside an .ini file or something like that to hack but that shouldn't be necessary.

If I discover a fix/workaround, I will post it.

Good luck.

I've been using Courier/Calypso for over 10 years and I gave up on the font thing. The whole "Character sets" tab is a mass of confusion. I don't see how anybody can really understand it.

My default is supposed to be Arial 10, and sometimes it works, sometimes it replies in 12, and sometimes it goes to Times New Roman 12. There's no rhyme or reason to it that I've ever been able to figure out.

I've never found a cure for the 12 point setting, but per other messages on here I changed my Internet Explorer font (Tools, Internet Options, General Tab, Fonts button, and then the web page font) to my desired font and Courier will use that.
