Hi. Cox Webmail has recently incorporated a feature for "return receipt." I've read that this is supposed to ask the recipient if he wants to send a return receipt or not. But I sent myself an email and opened it in courirer, and was not asking if I wanted to send a return receipt or not. So apparently whatever technology is used in Cox Webmail is able to give people return receipts informing them when we opened their emails, without our having any say in the matter.
I've read that most email programs are set up to automatically block return receipts. Is this a deficiency of Courirer?
Does anyone know if there is a way to set up Courier to block return receipt systems, or is return receipt not something dealt with by the software?
I tried experimenting with different things in the properties under "plain text" and "html" but it didn't make any difference. I always received a return receipt when I requested one through Cox webmail.
Thanks for your help.

Mailbox | Properties -> Advanced Settings tab. There is a setting for "Allow automatic sending of opened receipts". If checked, people who have requested notification of when you open an email from them will receive one, if it is not checked then they'll get nothing.
Note that this does not affect "Delivery Receipts". Those are handled by your mail server and there is no way to turn those off from your email client.

Could there be a check box added to allow return receipts only if the sender is on your whitelist (address book)? Actually, the check box to allow return receipts unconditionally could be replaced with one that allows them if the sender is on your whitelist. If they are not, permission should be asked first.
