Question Mapi...Again

OK, I'm having some issues with MAPI. I have downloaded a new dll as instructed before, and installed it. When I click a mailto: link on my main computer, it always brings up one particular mailbox. Trouble is, my wife and I each have our own mailbox. Isn't there a way for it to ask you which mailbox you want? Additionally, I also network my Courier mailbox to my laptop over wireless at home. It doesn't work with MAPI calls that way. Any suggestions? I'm hopeful that 4.0 will address this issue better.

mailto links: Yes, you can change this to always prompt for the mailbox (it will give you the same screen as when you open Courier from the Start Menu where you can choose from Create / Open / Browse). It requires a change to the registry:

Find the Registry entry for

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\mailto\shell\open/command and change it from:

"C:\Program Files\Courier Email\Courier.exe" /default /mailto "%1"

to

"C:\Program Files\Courier Email\Courier.exe" /mailto "%1"

Note that this really isn't a MAPI function, just an association.

As to the network question, I would expect that as long as the local machine has the correct MAPI installed and the mailbox location is mapped (not sure this is even necessary) that it should work. I'll have to set up a different configuration to test that.

Very interesting! I'll try it. I would also like to reiterate that when version 4 comes out, it would make sense to make the thing as networkable as possible. There really is no other product that can do this, other than Pegasus. None of the big boys are networkable peer to peer: You can't do it with Outlook, Outlook Express, Eudora, etc, unless you try some wild workarounds which are not supported and lead to problems often. With the proliferation of home networks, and the advantages of POP/IMAP mail over webmail, having a product that is easy to configure for a home network is really an advantage, and one I would tout if it were my product...

Courier really does work well that way, but there are just a few quirks, such as the mapi thing, that I should think could be solved fairly easily if the will is there. Then you'd have the perfect home network product. Pegasus Mail can do it, but it has lots of other problems which is why I switched to Courier in the first place! Keep up the good work!
