Posts having been read indication

A few years ago I asked about a problem I was having with posts being marked as read as I opened them. It would work in IE but not in Firefox.

What I mean by that is when I ask for new posts and read one, then go back to my new posts list, the one I just read is listed with a closed envelope while the unread ones are listed with open envelopes.

It now works in Firefox and makes it a lot easier to find my place after I have followed a thread for several minutes and returned to my new posts list.

Thanks for fixing that. Anti frustration is a good thing.....

This morning I got my usual unread posts and commenced to read them. The closed envelope worked on the 1st post but stopped thereafter.

Is someone messing with it? I'd like it back thank you very much.....

In the upper Right hand corner:

Welcome, Steve R Jones.
You have 5 unread posts

What happens when you click on the line that says you have X number or unread posts?

I can read many...and then click the link and it only shows threads I haven't read yet.

When I open the BBS, I go to the "you have X unread posts which usually gives me 2-3 pages of posts.

After reading a post, say somewhere in the middle of the page, I go back to the page I left (of unread posts). The thing was giving me my original unread posts except that the ones I had already read were marked with closed envelope icon. It is exactly if I had clicked f5.

If I click on the "you have x unread posts" again, the message I read is gone and I am faced with a page full of open envelope icons and don't remember where I was in the list.

If I were a moderator (heaven forbid) I would have to read every post and your method works just fine. However, I read maybe 10 out of 100.

If there were a method that I could see the unread posts across all forums that I could select by default, that would be even better.

I would be happy with the method that was working just fine if you could put it back on.

Anytime you click on and open a thread - it's read and there is no undoing that...untill someone else comes along and posts in it.

You should be able to click the back button to see your original list...But, any thread that has been read will be marked as read/closed envelope.

Yes, and it was doing that exactly until August 31st. Now it goes back to the list and the post is not marked read/closed.

If I open up IE7, the post is not a closed envelope but is a red font with dashes around the title. Which is good but I don't use IE. I am exclusively Firefox 3.5.3.
