Arrow Member rankings on Windowsbbs!

Hello everyone. I have a quick question that I have wondered ever since I joined Windowsbbs back in September. Sometimes when I view posts by members I sometimes notice that a persons name is gray and under that persons name it says away...instead of member, senior member, Geek member, ect. Sowhat does that term away... mean? I know I may be a put nosy but I am just curious as to why certain members have the word away and most do not.

Also what does the term Windowsbbs Team member mean to the person and what benefits do the Windowsbbs team members get compared to the members that pay for lifetime subscriptions? Thanks in advance for any comments.

The term Away is a polite form of Banned/Suspended.

Being designated as a Team Member makes me feel good that I was actually helpful in aiding others with their problems.

The Lifetime Subscription made other areas available within the forum structure over what the Team Member status did. It also enabled having a WindowsBBS email address. I also feel that supporting this excellent forum in such a way will enable it to continue to help those with problems in the present time and future.

Thanks for the information whiskeyman. That was most informative. One last question though what would cause a member to be banned? I am assuming that the member violated one or more of the posting rules multiple times and got banned because of it, am i correct in this theory or not?

Correct. Breaking the rules is why most people get banned...Some of the banned people also come back with different user names..Once found out they get banned again.

Thanks for the reply Steve. Its also up to a moderator or the administrator to determine how long a person is suspended for or whether they will be banned forever depending on what posting rule the member violates. So violating one posting rule could get the member suspended and violating a different rule could get the member banned depending on which rule the memer violated. Also if you violate posting rule #3 (which I have done once and I know many members have) that will just result in a warning correct?

Correct - and also what they posted.

Correct, but there is no implied threat of a ban or suspension. In an extreme case where a member persistently violated Posting Rule #3 I would warn by PM and if the behaviour continued - suspend for a time I considered to be appropriate. This scenario has not happened AFAIK

Thanks for the information Pete. Just one more question, is it rare that you have to deal with troublesome members that end up violating the posting rules to an extent where they get banned or suspended? Or do staff members deal with troublesome members on a weekly basis? I know windowsbbs has a lot of members that have joined this forum so you probably have had to deal with a member that doesn't obey the rules some time or another in the time that you have been a staff member.
