My wife has an iPod and would like a compilational CD disc made from the songs she has loaded into it. None of these songs are iTunes. All of them have been loaded into the player from other discs that we own, a couple of songs from each. When she went to make the disc of them, it would only allow her, after asking if she wanted MP3s and her saying yes, to burn only a handful of them. Is it the fact of the MP3s? Is it Apple deciding what we can do with the music? If she had said no to MP3 then I assume the CD would only have room for 15-17 songs. She has an an MP3 player in the car where the disc was heading. Any help?

I don't have an IPod, but what I have heard is that it is no problem to copy tunes to the IPod but very difficult to copy tunes from the IPod.
I think it would be much easier for you to use WMP11 and copy the CD's there to the Library and then select your favorite tracks and use Nero or some other burner and burn to CD.
You can also if you wish Rip them to MP3 and this would then give you many more tracks on your MP3 CD.
I have MP3 CD's with over 100 tracks of music on it, great in the car when going on a trip. WMP will give you options on the quality of the Rip and this will regulate on the amount of tunes that will fit on the CD the higher the quality the fewer tunes that will fit all depends on the size of the file.
(Keeping in mind that copying CD's is not legal in some states or countries):eek::mad::confused:

    bobboyd185,

iPods are a pain, that's for sure. I think the problem is that the music is converted into a special format for the iPod. Have you tried the program iPod2PC? That will take the songs on your iPod and copy them, as MP3s, to your computer. I have tried it and it seems to work pretty good. You are able to try it for free before buying it. I think it's 100 songs that you can copy over on the free version. That might be a quicker option for you.

    Hi Mike
iPods are nice, but can be a somewhat "captivating" device.
Look at these 10 Alternatives to iTunes for managing your iPod (includes overview / with screenshots). Hopefully one of these alternative programs will allow you to move songs freely (YamiPod looks interesting). All are free or Open Source. Be careful, as some program(s) are specific to a iPod model generation.
Enjoy, let us know what works.

some info about iPod and iTunes.

    - When adding music to your iTunes it will ask you if you want them as MP3 or AAC. (I cant remember if you can set a format as default or not)
    - Unless this changed in later versions all files added to your iTunes Library should be found in My Documents\My Music\iTunes. (so you should be able to go get them from there, unfortunately you will have to open and listen to each file to find out what it is as they will have odd names, if you cant find them try to change your windows settings to view hidden files and folders)

    Hope this helps
